Mr. Hoover,
My name is
Steve Fountain and I am the landowner of approximately 68 acres near Tatum, Texas. Last year I was made aware that the mineral rights for my property had been leased and that there were plans made to drill an exploratory gas well at some point in the current year. As my wife and I had gone to considerable trouble to reloate our family to a secluded and rural environment, you can imagine the disdain we felt at having our property and privacy invaded by anyone, much less "some big oil company".
Early this year, I was contacted by Sidney Hodge and after a few brief telephone conversations, we arranged a face-to-face meeting. I must admit that my expectations of your representative being the strict, all business, all for the company type of individual were dashed by Sidney's very gentlemanly demeanor. I am sure that he had been in situations much like ours and probably had dealt with other more hostile individuals than I, but I must admit that I have found Sidney to have a very rare combination of business acumen along with a goodly portion of down-to-earth common sense. I can appreciate the fact that he has made good on every concession that we have agreed upon and, in fact, has gone above board to see that this whole experience is, at the least, as tolerable as possible. From that very first meeting, Sidney has presented himself to be an understanding an daffable person and that quality has gone a long way with satisfying my feelings of acceptance to the invasion of my little fiefdom.
With that said, I feel that such behavior should be acknowledged and I would like to express my appreciation for Sidney to you in hopes that reward might follow recognition.
Regards,
Steve Fountain

Subject: Settlement Statement & Check
Dear Mr. Gaines,
Just a short note to say thank you.
I received your statements and the check in the mail today.
Your personal attention to this, as well as your kind and
responsive explanation of many things on the continuing development
of the Talley Bottoms Gas Unit over time, have been greatly
appreciated. Perhaps, more than you know?
Royalty owners are more often than not treated by most oil/gas
production companies as illegitimate children to be acknowledged,
conversed with, and dealt with only when absolutely necessary
I have dealt with several oil and gas companies over the last
25 years, mostly related to sale/transfer/accounting changes
on older East Texas oil and newer gas leases to different
production operators and lease owners; and frankly, the majority
have left a bad taste in the mouth. Most will not even answer
the telephone with a human, but choose to use an answering/screening
machine. Conversely, I can honestly say your company has been
completely open and forthcoming with information for the royalty
owner. Also, you actually have a statement written in plain
English which is easy to understand and which does not require
translation of hard to understand internal accounting codes.
That is a rare and truly appreciated industry change!
So, thank you again sir........ both for your personal professional
efforts and actions, and those of your company. They have
indeed been a breath of fresh air for the energy industry
and marks of a highly responsible and well managed corporate
entity. Please convey these "on-the-record" comments
on to your bosses. They should be proud to have you as a highly
effective company representative.
best regards,
Luke C. Fisher, Jr.
